Aurea is a design and engineering case study I built as a portfolio project, not a commercial product and not a real health plan. It demonstrates a redesigned employer benefits app with an AI navigator called Sage. Every member profile, claim, prescription, provider, and conversation in it is fictional and written for this project, and no real people or real protected health information appear anywhere.
The coverage terms are the exception: the copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket limits are extracted from real published health plan documents and presented under an invented carrier name, so the plans behave the way real plans do. None of it describes a plan you can buy, and none of it is coverage advice. You can read how and why it was built in the Aurea and Sage case study.
The app has no real user accounts. There is no signup, no password, and no way to create an identity in it. On launch it signs in automatically to one of a fixed set of fictional demo members, so I collect no name, email, address, health information, or payment information about you as a person using the demo.
One thing only: the text of messages you type to Sage, which is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API so a response can be generated. Those messages are used to produce that response and are not linked to your real identity, because the app has no real identities to link them to. Anthropic handles that data under their own privacy policy. Please do not type real personal or medical information into the demo.
The app remembers which fictional demo profile is currently selected, using the standard iOS preferences store. That stays on your device, contains no real personal information, and is removed when you delete the app.
None. The app contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking of any kind.
Aurea is not directed at children. It is a design demo aimed at people evaluating my work, and it collects no personal information from anyone, including children, because it has no accounts and no way to enter real personal details.
A production version would work differently, and deliberately so. Because a real version holds protected health information, the account itself would be the age gate: you would verify that you are 18 or older once, at registration, and that would establish who is on the other end for every conversation afterwards. That is as much a privacy measure as an age measure. It means the assistant never has to ask for your name, date of birth and address at the start of each conversation the way a call centre does, and every one of those repetitions avoided is identifying information that is never transmitted, never logged, and cannot leak. A dependent’s records would also be treated differently from a subscriber’s. This demo has no real records to protect, so it does none of it: an age wall here would add friction for every person reviewing my work while guarding nothing.
Northgate Health Plan, ClearSight, Kestrel Pharmacy, Summit Dental, Lumen Health, Fernwood, Stillwater, SecondLook and Metabolix are companies I made up, logos included. They stand in for the kinds of vendors a real employer plan contracts with, so the demo reads the way one would, without using any real company’s name or artwork. Any resemblance to a real business is coincidental. Earlier builds did use the real brands; I replaced them because shipping another company’s logo files in an app I distribute is their property, not mine, regardless of how clearly I labelled the app a demo.
Sage answers from synthetic plan documents written for this project. Nothing it says is real coverage guidance. Do not use Aurea, or anything in it, to make an actual healthcare, insurance, or financial decision.
